Giant Steps is an organic coffee with chocolate notes that ring constant in every sip. Straightforward and bold, this dark roast captivates with its uncomplicated taste. There is no bright, fruity fanfare here. Just endless cocoa depth, sweet caramel, and a lingering finish. French press brewing creates a resonant cup with a viscous body, and milk or cream only intensifies the chocolate tones.

Giant Steps

Named for John Coltrane’s groundbreaking album Giant Steps, this coffee is not unlike the jazz visionary's signature “Sheets of Sound.” We let each note blur into the next for a stream of consciousness that washes over you in waves. We push the development on the roasting drum until the sweetness and body peak without ever letting any off flavors, like burnt notes, come through.

Small Batch Coffee, Fresh-Roasted Daily to Order

We employ the Japanese notion of Kaizen in our roasting practice. This idea of “good change” or “continuous improvement” drives our team to keep daily records of their tastings, always chasing better, more delicious, more consistent coffees.

We roast small batches on Loring machines around the world, so our coffee tastes not only luminous but also reliably consistent, from Tokyo to San Francisco to New York.
