The Nature of Individuality

Using One Kiln’s traditional technique, these cups are mud-cast by turning the clay into a less viscous texture and pouring it into a mold. It is then spilled until it reaches the proper thickness. Each Jinup varies in thickness and shape depending on how the mud is cut when spilled and the duration of the spilling. This process embodies Jin Akihiro’s philosophy of “forming irregular shapes” and gives the cup a natural character.
